4th of July Weekend...
Can you even believe it is 4th of July weekend? As Bob would say, “summer is almost over”. The BBQ’s and picnics and all that wonderful tempting food!!!!
You can keep it healthy by knowing what to avoid! Always remember to try and eat something before you go anywhere, that always helps curve the temptations! The grilled burgers and hot dogs, go for the burger and eliminate the bun and use mustard as the condiment of choice! Hopefully your host/hostess will also include grilled chicken breasts! Shrimp would be great, but it is most likely they were marinating in tons of oil! Of course you already know to stay away from any of those mayo based sides like potato salad! Just keep your eyes out for any and all the fresh veggies! Think what you can do with the lettuce, tomato and onions that are probably available for those burgers! Now for the hardest part - stay away from those liquid calories - don’t even think about that margarita or beer! If you must (I must), stick with the red wine and drink lot’s and lot’s of water!
Our choice for the weekend, may not be the healthiest, but it isn’t horrible! (see blog, June 1, 2010)
